Throughout the 20th century, Monsanto produced large quantities of PCB, a harmful, indestructible chemical compound. When PCBs were found to be carcinogenic, they were banned, and Monsanto had a disposal problem. Most of the 18 known PCB dump sites in the UK are in Wales, and The Ty Llwydd quarry in the Sirhowy Valley is just one of them.

In The Cost of Putting Things Right, photographer Matthew Broadhead and writer Richard Owen Collins embarked on a collaborative journey into the Sirhowy Valley, to investigate the pollution and its impact on the locality.

They've spent a year visiting the area, meeting with locals, and digging through archives to produce a compelling account of a baffling situation. This book is the sum of their experience.
